“Wedding weekends—which include extended, often three-day timelines packed with matrimonial celebrations beyond the ceremony and reception—are by no means new. A myriad of cultures across the globe throw multi-day pre- and post-nuptial soirées, and have been doing so for centuries. But in 2024, it feels like the norm across the board, for both local and destination events.”

“When guests arrive at your venue on your big day, setting the mood is paramount. If elegance is what you’re after, there’s hardly a better way to make hearts swell than by incorporating a string quartet at your wedding.”

“Precisely what makes reading so good for you is what makes it so bad for capitalism. As you learn about the functions of the world, you begin to realize something fantastic: the whole world is made up of stories. Every person, object, and species has a story to tell. A past that shapes them, a present that holds them, and a future they crave. Paying attention to those stories means you’re unengaged with the very system that sets out to destroy the diversity that gives life its flavor.”

Besides, Daniel figured, eventually rolling off the mattress to pee, everybody was alone. The people outside his window were inside alone, too. He tried not to look at them, but sometimes he couldn’t help himself. Even now, standing at the toilet with his hot piss streaming out, he looked out the window to the building next door, into Miss Old Lady’s apartment. There she sat, her hair done up in a silky bonnet thing, smoking skinny cigarettes and watching soap operas. She wore her usual green bathrobe and stroked Fat Cat’s fluffy gray body lazily, smoke trailing out of her old thin lips. Fat Cat sometimes sat on the fire escape and Daniel would watch it, wondering what it ever thought about. Rats, probably, big, and juicy. And food. Or nothing at all.”

“I had always thought of my grandma as the person who nurtured my literary sensibilities; she taught me to write shorthand then engaged me in abundant correspondence, ordered me a subscription to Stone Soup, a literary magazine written and illustrated by children, and awed me with the astonishing pace in which she would tear through a book, one a day at least, one cigarette butt after another crushed into a nearby ashtray.”

“It’s hard to decide which is more shocking; the fact that the lovely da Vinci spent many nights elbow-deep in the bodies of the dead or that he resigned himself to such a macabre task to quench his intrigue and curiosity. How many people on Twitter can say that?”

10 Best EDC Pens For Men — For Every Writing Need in 2021

“It’s finally time to settle down and find that special someone—and I’m not talking about your love life. I’m talking about the best EDC pen, also known as Everyday Day Carry. If you’re sick of buying the same cheap pens over and over again (or surviving off freebies from the bank) it’s high time you consider something a little more permanent.”

“You’re not alone if you picture silk scarves as an accessory for the dapper gent from days of yore. Considering Beethoven started the trend in the late 18th century, you’re not wrong in your imaginings…Although still a chosen accessory for the refined, silk scarves are actually on the radar of the fashion-minded. You see them with jeans and a rolled-up tee just as often as you do with a suit.”
